The dedicated people who bring the Quebec Health & Safety Coordinators Association to life.
Cédric Thibault
President
Cédric Thibault (President) draws on his experience in health and safety and construction through a volunteer commitment to the recognition and development of the health and safety coordinator profession. Within the CoSS association, he helps build a shared voice for field professionals, promotes knowledge sharing and supports rigorous practices adapted to the realities of Quebec worksites. His involvement is based on a simple conviction: a profession that is better represented, better equipped and better understood can positively influence the prevention culture in the construction industry.
Jean-Alexandre Poirier
Vice-President
Having worked in construction for several years, Jean-Alexandre Poirier has gained field experience that gradually led him to specialize in occupational health and safety. His background as a carpenter and team leader now allows him to approach prevention with a practical understanding of daily worksite realities.
Since 2019, he has worked directly in prevention on construction sites, first as a prevention officer and then as a health and safety coordinator (CoSS). He now serves as a senior health and safety coordinator, contributing to the planning, coordination and improvement of OHS practices on several construction projects.
His approach emphasizes an on-site presence, risk assessment, practical technical solutions and collaboration with workers, forepersons, managers, professionals and other prevention stakeholders.
He holds a university certificate in occupational health and safety from UQAT and the P.CSO (Professional Construction Safety Officer) certification. He places particular importance on developing the CoSS role and recognizing its expertise as an essential part of prevention on Quebec worksites.
As Vice-President of the Association des coordonnateurs en santé et sécurité du Québec, he aims to contribute to the profession’s development, encourage knowledge sharing among CoSS professionals and help advance health and safety practices in the construction industry.
Louis Paradis
Treasurer
“A carpenter by trade with more than 25,000 hours of worksite experience, mainly in the commercial and multi-residential sectors, I have worked as a health and safety coordinator for several years. I am currently pursuing a university certificate in OHS to support my practice with a solid technical foundation.
A collaborative field professional focused on practical solutions, I have a natural interest in coaching and sharing knowledge. For me, safety is built together: I always welcome a constructive OHS discussion with my peers!”
Ahmed Afra
Secretary
With a master’s degree in architecture and more than 16 years of construction experience, Ahmed Afra has developed a career spanning design, fieldwork and health and safety.
After arriving in Quebec, he redirected his career towards health and safety coordination on construction sites, a field that quickly appealed to him for its human and practical dimensions. For him, prevention sometimes means saving lives without ever knowing how many.
He now seeks to actively contribute to the advancement of health and safety in Quebec and leave a positive mark. He believes there is still much to develop, particularly in modernizing practices, digitization, the thoughtful use of new technologies, knowledge sharing and improving the tools available to prevention professionals.
As the association’s Secretary, he seeks to contribute his thoroughness, organizational skills and field experience while taking part in discussions and initiatives that will help the profession continue to evolve.
